Position Overview:

The Logistics/Distribution Center Controller position is responsible for the accounting, reporting, inventory control activities, projections, analytics on warehouse costs and services for the Distribution Center.

Also responsible to ensure the operation is consistent with corporate policies, sound accounting procedures, and compliant with federal and state requirements. This position will provide analytical insights, drive value, and be a strategic adviser  to the VP of Operations and the  Corporate Controller.

  Job Responsibilities:

Data Integrity: Ensure that distribution center activity for process, shipments, DC expenses, and inventory adjustments are recorded timely and accurately so that information in our systems can be relied upon for accounting, financial reporting, supply chain execution, and analysis.

General Accounting: Ensure compliance with policies and procedures in accordance with U.S. GAAP with respect to period recognition of costs, capital vs. expense, accruals, etc. Implement Standard Operating Procedures and make recommendations to improve on current processes.

Internal Controls: Assess execution of local internal control practices that support accurate financial reporting, data integrity, and safeguarding of assets.

Cost Accounting: Responsible for monthly accounting close and reporting cycle, including inventory reconciliations and valuation, reporting, key statistical entries, manufacturing variances and other financial reporting requirements. Responsible for preparation and/or review of local account reconciliations.  Identifies operational efficiency opportunities

Planning & Forecasting:  Coordinate the DC Annual Operating Plan (AOP), working with VP Operations and Corporate Controller with preparation of the DC budget, monthly spend forecasts, and ongoing reporting and analysis of actual costs vs, budget, key drivers of variances, and identifying opportunities for cost management. This includes certain weekly spend and KPI reporting.  Monitors, and evaluates DC KPI' s on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. Identify potential areas of financial risk and opportunities to support growth while maintaining profit margins.

Reporting: Headcount analysis and reporting; including labor and overhead. Work with Director of Distribution and VP – Operations to problem solve and identify improvement as the finance subject matter expert by providing support and analysis in such areas as process performance, line efficiency, capital spending, inventory management, costing, and cost reduction.   Ensures the accuracy, integrity and timely preparation of financial records in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting principles.


Special Projects: Lead or assist special projects from time to time as needed, including  the monitoring and controlling of distribution center development and transition costs.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor’ s degree in Accounting, Business or management related field. CPA a plus

  • 5+ years' experience in logistics, accounting and finance as a controller or assistant controller

  • Prior distribution industry experience required

  • Knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls

 

SKILLS:

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the ability to extract, analyze and process information. Basic knowledge in Word and Outlook as well as the ability to optimize business technology tools to improve business processes.

  • Ability to think strategically and identify/execute appropriate action plans.

  • Strong technical and financial accounting knowledge.

  • Financial analysis and reporting skills; experience in in developing and utilizing systems, tools, processes and controls.

  • Strong analytical and investigative research skills.

  • Strong cost and/or inventory control experience within a distribution center environment and how it relates to financial reporting.

  • Ability to work independently and in a high pressure, multi-personality, fast-paced, deadline oriented environment.

  • Excellent project management and resource prioritization skills. Ability to develop realistic timelines and deliver results.

  • Demonstrates flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to protect confidential information

  • High degree of initiative and results orientation.

  • Exceptional relationship-building skills at the group and individual level; able to gain the confidence and trust of others.
