Job Description


Our NJ Based CPG Wholesale client is seeking a Director of Marketplaces with a demonstrated history of success on Amazon and other marketplaces, including experience selling to Amazon as a 1P vendor. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a major channel in a high growth business. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical skillset and a demonstrated ability to work effectively across functional areas within the company as well as to engage with major accounts, external agencies and service providers to achieve the company’ s revenue and contribution targets. 

Daily  Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategy for marketplace accounts (including Amazon and Wayfair) to drive profitable growth 
  • Ownership of product listings, advertising, process to encourage ratings and reviews and marketplace monitoring and reporting 
  • Collaboration with customer service and fulfillment to ensure that negative reviews and customer questions are addressed and that important fulfillment metrics are maintained 
  • Input into pricing strategy and demand planning 
  • Detailed maintenance and improvements of product listings (titles, descriptions, photos, graphics, and videos) 
  • Oversee product listing process 
  • Ownership of product title and description optimization based upon keyword research 
  • Provide direction to create team regarding graphic, photo and video assets 
  • Own strategy for encouraging product ratings and reviews 
  • Monitor marketplaces to address negative customer reviews in partnership with customer service. Report trends and insights to relevant functional areas (such as merchandising) 

  • [in partnership with a third party agency] Develop advertising strategy and manage daily advertising spending and promotions across marketplaces accounts to maximize variable contribution 

  • Develop, monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) using third party tools, customer provided analytics and internal reporting to ensure optimization of sales across all accounts 

  • Work closely with senior executives to ensure that important operational metrics for marketplaces success are achieved (order processing speed, order defect rates, order tracking availability, etc.) 

  • [Member of account team interfacing with category managers at Amazon, Wayfair and other marketplace accounts] 

  • Support identification of assortment optimization opportunities in collaboration with internal partners and external agencies, including identification of new or underpenetrated areas or adjacent categories for growth 

  • Partner with other functional areas to support demand planning for marketplace accounts 

  • Contribute to developing pricing and promotions strategy with senior management 

Experience/Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’ s degree 

  • At least four years of experience managing and optimizing marketplaces accounts including an Amazon Vendor Central relationship. Seller Central experience a plus 

  • Experience managing Wayfair and other first party marketplace accounts a plus 

  • Experience with directly managing Amazon sponsored advertising and DSP spend 

  • Demonstrated history of success in optimization of Amazon product listings 

  • Understanding of a P&L and economics associated with different Amazon selling models (including 1P, FBA, SFP) 

  • Deep familiarity with ecosystem of Amazon tools and service providers 

  • Experience with product information management systems 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with customers, vendors, and colleagues across functional areas of the company 

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment, juggling multiple competing tasks and demands to establish priorities and meet deadlines. 

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 

  • Experience with analytics and reporting software. Power user of Excel. SQL experience a plus.
